- AboutDisability Campaign was begun in 2010 by Joni Eareckson Tada who has lived with a disability for over four decades. When she became quadriplegic in a diving accident in 1967, Joni and her family were overcome by the financial strain, the day-to-day routines, and the social isolation that so often accompanies a severe disabling condition. Friends from her church and the community rallied around Joni’s family and soon she began to ease back into the mainstream of life. When Joni began attending college, she realized there were very few disability resources available. Once she began ‘breaking ground’ in areas of access and advocacy, Joni promised if she were ever given the opportunity, she would help other families like hers. As a result, Disability Campaign was given birth in 2010 to raise awareness and make resources available to those impacted by disability. Joni Eareckson Tada is a gifted speaker and a seasoned radio commentator. She is also the Founder and CEO of Joni and Friends, a non-profit organization which serves people affected by disability internationally.
